What is an EpiPen?

An EpiPen is an auto-injectable device that delivers a dose of epinephrine (adrenaline) to treat severe allergic reactions, also known as anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis can be life-threatening and requires immediate treatment.

Who needs an EpiPen?

EpiPens are prescribed for people with a history of severe allergic reactions to allergens such as insect stings, foods (peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish), medications, or latex.

How does an EpiPen work?

Epinephrine helps to counteract the symptoms of anaphylaxis by constricting blood vessels, reducing swelling, and relaxing the airways to improve breathing.
